Marques Emmanuel - London, England

Marques is a man who wears many hats. Blogger. Model. Photographer. All-around creative content machine. And last but not least, the guy knows how to throw-down at the club – a very important characteristic indeed. So we caught up with him in his hometown of London, England to ask him – who are you? Here’s what he had to say…

I grew up in a very quiet area in England that’s dominated mainly by trees and families driving 4×4’s. Not much to do and pretty much nothing going on – but I found out early on that it’s all about what you make of it. Whatever you put in to your surroundings is what you’ll get out of them – and that holds true wherever you are.

In addition to fashion blogging, I currently work for an advertising company based in Richmond that specialises in enhancing/improving how diversity and inclusion is branded for all the companies we work with. People always assume my daily job is what they see on my Instagram feed (understandable), but my 9-5 is something that I’m also very passionate about. The best part about it is being able to be part of an organisation that supports changing peoples’ preconceived ideas of brands…Making a difference is really what drives me. And the all expenses-paid client dinners aren’t bad either 😉

How do people describe me? TALL. Kind, and with good, positive energy. All around just a relaxed dude who enjoys a good party. Happy-go-lucky.

Inspiration can come from anywhere. I tend to read a lot of self-improvement books – they’ve shaped my ideas of how to constantly create from the source and to always be in touch with how I feel. I’m also endlessly inspired by art galleries and clean spaces/ minimal design; I don’t really know why, but it just makes me feel something. I guess inspiration is sometimes hard to describe…

The person who’s had the biggest impact on me is definitely my twin brother. We’re  others’ “yes man”.

What event in my life has affected me the most? I feel it coming…

I love Paris. I was out there for Men’s Fashion week in January to attend a few shows and to shoot with several street wear brands. The whole experience will forever be a special memory for me.

The best piece of advice I ever received is focus on what you can control and work harder than you did yesterday.

My biggest strength is my self-confidence.

If it was my last day on earth, then my last meal would definitely be a cheeky, greasy chicken burger with fries – die DIRTY!

My most prized possession at the moment is probably my phone – absolutely essential for my everyday life.

To me, personal style is expression. So naturally, my mood genuinely dictates how I put my outfits together. I also lay a lot of emphasis on colour palettes and shapes of the clothes I wear. These things really say a lot about how you view yourself. Just be you and be free.

Dress for yourself.

I want to be remembered as the guy who was just so damn happy to be there.
