Five finishes, five characters

A jacket that looks fresh from the factory hasn't been through anything yet. That's why almost none of ours leave that way. Hand feel, depth of color and the first break happen before the jacket ever reaches a hanger — and because every step is done by hand, no two come out exactly alike.

This is where most questions come in: Mine is lighter than in the photo. Yes. That's the process, not a flaw.

Heavy Washed

The longest process. The leather loses its stiffness, the color breaks up at edges and seams, the surface gains depth. A heavy washed jacket feels worn from day one — not worn out, broken in.

This is our most common wash: A True Lovestory, Ethan, Elon, Dean, Stephen, Pam, Cocoon, Daniel, Jules, Nero — all in sheepskin.

Stone Washed

Washed with stones until the black breaks up into gray: lighter at seams and edges, deeper across the panels. Every piece gets its own pattern — there are no two alike. If you want the lived-in look at its most pronounced, this is the one.

Ours: Daniel in Stone Washed Black.

Buffed

No washing here — it's sanded. The surface is roughened until it turns matte and velvety and lightens at edges and seams. The effect is drier than washing, the grain stays more visible — nubuck character, with the body of the leather underneath.

In cowhide: Velte, Nox, Daniel and the second version of Nero. In sheepskin: Pete.

Vintage finished

Several layers of color are applied and taken off again. That gives depth instead of coverage: from two meters the jacket looks like one solid color, from twenty centimeters you can see it isn't.

The process works especially well on leather with an open grain: Forest and Talvi in sheepskin, Elephant Vintage in brown and in gray — and for women, Mayra in goatskin suede, Lotus and Dessert.

Basic Black

The quietest finish in the range: even, smooth, no broken edges. What the wash anticipates on the others, Basic Black leaves to you — the jacket gets its character where you handle it.

What that means for you

• Color differences between two pieces of the same jacket are normal.
• Lighter edges aren't wear — they're the starting point.
• Washed jackets fit right away. Buffed cowhide and Basic Black need a few weeks.
